Support and\/or accommodation is available through all phases of our hiring process, please let us know how we can support you.<\/p>\n<p>Position Summary<br \/>\nThe Shelter Program Worker provides immediate and responsive crisis support to abused women and their children at Chrysalis House, in accordance with the WOCRC Vision, Mission, and the Health Equity and Inclusion lens. \u00a0Participation in, and promotion of, cooperative living is a component of this position.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Principal Duties and Responsibilities<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Provide Direct Service:<\/strong><br \/>\nAssess requests for residential shelter services according to Chrysalis House (CH) policies and procedures, ensure alternatives are found if CH services are not appropriate;<br \/>\nProvide crisis intervention through telephone and personal contact with abused women and their children;<br \/>\nAssess level of risk and execute emergency measures as necessary;<br \/>\nConduct intake and discharge processes for all residents;<br \/>\nEnsure that all health, medical and safety needs of residents are attended to;<br \/>\nEnsure effective day-to-day operation of services at CH; including but not limited to: answering crisis, business and donation lines, answering the door and accepting donations;<br \/>\nEnsure the general cleanliness of CH including, but not limited to, transitioning rooms and supporting residents to participate in household responsibilities;<br \/>\nCheck-in with residents on each shift.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Advocacy on Behalf of Abused Women and Their Children:<\/strong><br \/>\nAdvocate for the needs of abused women and children as required;<br \/>\nPromote participation of women in activities designed to educate and\/or advocate for prevention of violence against women.<br \/>\nEnsure Coordination of Policy and Service:<br \/>\nCollaborate with the Child &amp; Youth Counsellor, Family Support Counsellor and Case Managers;<br \/>\nMaintain accurate and up-to-date client records;<br \/>\nUtilize internal communication mechanisms such as the Log Book, Shift Change binder, etc.<br \/>\nComplete CH shift change when arriving\/departing;<br \/>\nComplete evening\/overnight\/weekend checklists including any household tasks as assigned by the Food and House Care Worker.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Knowledge, Experience and Skills<\/strong><br \/>\nSocial Service Worker diploma or equivalent in experience, education and training;<br \/>\nDemonstrated commitment to, and knowledge of, community-based model of intervention and feminist principles;<br \/>\nKnowledge of\u00a0Violence Against Women\u00a0issues;<br \/>\nDemonstrated crisis intervention skills;<br \/>\nProven conflict resolution skills;<br \/>\nExperience working with volunteers;<br \/>\nProven ability to work independently, and within a team approach;<br \/>\nStrong communication skills;<br \/>\nMulti-tasking abilities;<br \/>\nDemonstrated ability to identify and serve the needs of diverse communities.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Hours of Work:<\/strong><br \/>\nThe hours of work are 12.25 hour shifts on a day and overnight rotational basis;<br \/>\nThe hours of work are subject to change based upon client needs;<br \/>\nHours are reflective of a 24\/7 operation;<br \/>\nMust be available to work evenings, weekends and overnights.<\/p>\n<p>Please apply online via this career centre.
