About this opportunity:

As a Camp Counsellor Supervisor, you are responsible for overseeing and supporting camp counsellors in delivering a safe, engaging, and enriching experience for campers. This role involves mentoring staff, managing daily camp operations, and ensuring that all activities align with camp goals and policies.

Position details:

• Salary: $17.20-20 per hour
• Total hours: 280 hours over 8 to 16 weeks
• Start date: flexible, working from May 2025 to the end of August 2025
• Location: camp sites, libraries, and community centers across York Region, such as Markham, Richmond Hill, Thornhill, Vaughan, Aurora-Oak Ridges, and Stouffville
• Employment eligibility requirements:
• Because our job positions are federally funded, you must be a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident, or a person who has been granted refugee status in Canada.
• Completion of a successful background check by the Government of Canada
• Passing a training quiz and exam
• Age 15-30 at the start of employment

Key responsibilities are as follows:

• Conduct regular check-ins and feedback sessions with counsellors to promote professional development and address any concerns.
• Regularly observe and assess the performance of camp counsellors to ensure they are meeting standards.
• Facilitate team meetings to discuss programming and share best practices.
• Evaluating program effectiveness and make recommendations for improvements based on camper and staff feedback.
• Maintain open lines of communication with camp directors and other staff to ensure smooth operations.
• Address and manage any emergencies or unexpected situations that arise.

Position requirements:

• Dedication and passion toward STEAM and sports education and helping the community.
• Prior camp experience, or experience in planning/facilitating children programs.
• Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
• Excellent problem-solving and conflict resolution skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to work 35 to 40-hour work weeks, including evenings and weekends if needed.
• A valid Standard First Aid with CPR-C certification. (Can be obtained post-employment, before first work day.)
• A satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check is required from successful candidates age 18 and above. (Can be obtained post-employment, before first work day.)

Assets:

• Fluency in more than one language (encompassing reading, writing, speaking, and listening abilities).
• Access to a car and a valid G2/G Ontario driver’s license.
